The Team

Colton and Kaylee attended Heartland Horseshoeing School in 2016 and began working together in 2018. Their practice has grown through years of learning alongside skilled vets, farriers, and horsemen, and is rooted in a shared belief that soundness, comfort, and doing right by the horse are always worth pursuing.

Colton Larson

Colton began working with horses after moving from Texas to South Carolina in 2011. As a teenager, he got involved with Pony Club, developed a love for jumping, and soon began helping instructors fine-tune horses in training. That work led to colt starting and a deep dive into trail riding and training. Though a back injury eventually took him out of the saddle, his respect for horses never faded. Colton went on to complete a long-term apprenticeship with two of South Carolina’s most respected farriers, gaining specialized experience with event horses and performance-focused care.

Kaylee Larson

Kaylee’s foundation with horses began on her grandparents’ cattle farm in Alberta, Canada, and grew into a full-time pursuit as a teenager apprenticing under working horsemen. Her focus was on colt starting, influenced by vaquero-style and buckaroo horsemanship. After attending farrier school in Missouri, she returned to Canada to build a thriving practice, working primarily with off-track Thoroughbreds and ranch horses. While she’s stepped back from riding in recent years, her love of training and thoughtful horsemanship continues to shape her approach to farriery.

Guiding Principles

Communicate Clearly

Good work depends on clear, respectful communication. We take time to listen, explain what we’re seeing, and collaborate with owners and care teams when needed. Our goal is shared understanding- so everyone involved can make informed decisions in the horse’s best interest.

Be Fair and Flexible When Reasonable

We aim to apply our pricing and policies with common sense. While consistency matters, we also understand that horses and circumstances aren’t one-size-fits-all. When flexibility is reasonable, we do our best to meet clients there.

Keep Everyone Safe

Safety comes first- for horses, handlers, and ourselves. Horses must be able to stand and be handled safely for appointments to proceed. We reserve the right to pause or refuse work if a situation becomes unsafe, always with the well-being of everyone involved in mind.

Respect Each Other’s Time

We value reliability and consistency, and we strive to show up prepared and on schedule. In return, we ask for the same respect for our time and appointments. Clear communication and timely notice help us serve our clients and horses well.
